An Anchor for the Soul

“And we have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.” – Hebrews 6:19

Throughout my life, I’ve cherished countless adventures, each one deepening my appreciation for the wonders of the outdoors. Of all these experiences, being out on the ocean captivates me most. The sea, mysterious and teeming with life, reminds us of nature’s vastness and awe. Chartering a boat to explore sandy barrier islands has brought me joy and connection, creating lasting memories with family and friends.

One of the most profound lessons from boating is the role of the anchor. This sturdy, unassuming device holds a vessel steady, digging deep into the seabed to prevent drifting. An anchor binds the boat to stability, just as people in our lives can serve as anchors: trusted sources of support, strength, and security. They keep us grounded when the currents of life try to pull us away.

We believe communities in Haiti deserve that same kind of stability—especially children and families navigating uncertainty. Through our work at Hands & Feet Project, the Haitian community anchors itself to our Circle of Care that digs deep into spiritual formation and holistic support.

I didn’t grow up in a Christian home. At sixteen, however, a friend from choir introduced me to the Lord, and my life was forever changed. In that pivotal moment, I sensed a calling to a higher purpose. Yet, despite my transformation, I lacked a sense of direction, a steadying influence, an anchor. Like many who long for true discipleship, I found myself questioning if my experience was real, searching for something to keep me from drifting.

Since then, my journey has become anchored in a clear mission: to advance God’s kingdom in every sphere entrusted to me, and to champion those who might otherwise drift without stability and direction.

My deepest desire is to witness God’s word transforming lives—children, families, communities, and even, at times, nations. I’ve sought out organizations that mirror my core beliefs: where integrity is preserved, courage is practiced in community, and unwavering faithfulness to God’s word redeems the world’s fractured places. These values are my compass and my anchor.

What if Hands & Feet Project could be that anchor for the children and families of Haiti? What if our calling is to bind the community together—so it does not drift, even in turbulent times?

Whenever I think of the children in our daycare classrooms, this calling comes into focus. The daycare is more than just a place for children to spend their days. It’s also an anchor, a source of stability and support for families who were once at risk of separation. I smile at the thought of these tiny ones, from three months old to three years old, and the unconditional love and support offered by each caregiver. Their days begin with worship; hymns drift down the corridors, echoing like a chorus from heaven. Turn a corner, and you’ll find a room alive with bright smiles, little fingers snapping, pudgy toes dancing, a remarkable sight—each baby clings to their loved one, anchoring themselves in love and security.

This is what makes our work unique: serving with a genuine heart, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary, one baby, one child, one family at a time. Our children and caregivers are fearless, eager to listen, and ready to anchor their souls to a Savior who promises more than they can imagine. That’s what true generosity looks like. These qualities are the foundation for relationships that advance our mission and multiply lasting change. This is our anchor.

To remain faithful to the mission of Hands & Feet Project, we must express clear communication, genuine respect, and a deep commitment to serving Haiti with dignity—seeing every person as an image bearer of a holy God.

Let’s face it: a life in Christ is the greatest adventure, carrying us farther than we ever dreamed possible. He is our true anchor. No matter what storms arise, He holds us fast and invites us to join the mission of bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. Together with Him, we can provide support and stability for the children and families of Haiti—an anchoring presence in the storm. God will keep us from drifting, offering unparalleled safety for the journey ahead.

May you find strength and deep joy in His promises. Let us hold fast to Him, the anchor of our souls, now and always.
