Resolve on the Mountain: When the Climb Demands Everything

There comes a moment in every journey when resolve stops being a word and becomes a lifeline.
Not the loud kind. Not bravado. Not noise.
But the quiet kind—like Abraham’s footsteps up Mount Moriah. Steady. Heavy. Unshakable.
We don’t know much about what he said on that climb, only that he brought wood, fire, and his son—the one he had waited a lifetime for. What we do know is that Abraham walked with resolve. Not because he understood the request, but because he trusted the One who made it.
Genesis 22 tells the story:
“Take your son, your only son, whom you love… and sacrifice him.” The ask is unthinkable. The journey is uphill. And yet, Abraham climbs.
It’s on that mountain—Moriah—where resolve meets revelation. God stops his hand. Provides a ram. And Abraham names the place: Yahweh Yireh. The Lord will provide.
But Mount Moriah isn’t just a place on the map. It’s a place in the soul. A place where trust outweighs answers. Where sacrifice paves the way for provision. Where human faith meets divine redemption.
Centuries later, Solomon would build the Temple on this very mountain. And maybe—just maybe—the hill where Christ was crucified sat on the same ancient ridge.
One mountain. One thread. One promise.
That when the climb feels like it will break you, provision still waits at the top.
This is the heart of our word for the month: Resolve.
And it’s what we see, too, in this month’s Project Red podcast with Brian Shun.
Brian’s story is shaped by adoption—first as a child, then as a man navigating identity, return, and repair. In the episode, he speaks with raw honesty about what it means to stay in a story when escape seems easier. What it means to lead from your wounds, not just your wins. And what it takes to keep climbing when the mountain is inside of you.
If you’ve ever wrestled with not recognizing yourself in the mirror—or in your family tree—his words will meet you like oxygen at altitude.
What Brian’s story reminds us is this: resolve isn’t the absence of pain. It’s the decision to keep going with it. To stay. To rebuild. To believe there’s more beyond this ridge.
And that’s where we see the heart of advocacy.
Because somewhere in Haiti, there’s a child waking up without the certainty of food, safety, or someone to call their own. And someone like you has the chance to meet that child’s mountain—with presence.
When you sponsor a child through Hands & Feet Project, you’re stepping into a story that’s already climbing. One that’s full of risk and resilience, loss and hope.
Your gift doesn’t just cover essentials—it says, “You’re not alone.”
It says, “There’s provision coming.”
It says, “I’ll climb with you.”
We don’t romanticize the climb. We know it’s steep—especially in a nation facing crisis after crisis.
But we also know what Abraham knew: God provides.
So this August, we’re asking you to move with resolve.
To give. To advocate. To lace up your soul and meet someone on their mountain.
Because every child deserves someone who won’t turn back.
