A Difficult Decision
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we share the news that we are putting a pause on Haiti Made leather operations. This decision was not made lightly; it came after much prayer, reflection, and grappling with the immense challenges of the current season. The hurdles we face—both within Haiti and beyond—have made it impossible to continue our job creation efforts in their current form.
Challenges on the Ground
The realities on the ground in Haiti are sobering. Rampant gang violence, road blockages, fuel shortages, and airlines halting travel in and out of the country have created an almost insurmountable barrier to shipping products to the States. Compounding this, our trusted leather supplier in Port-au-Prince has been forced to pause operations due to the escalating violence. These challenges have left us with no viable path to sustain our leather operations.
Unwavering Belief in Job Creation
Despite these struggles, our belief in the power of job creation remains unwavering. We have witnessed firsthand the transformation that dignified work brings to Haitian families. Jobs help parents keep their families together, give young adults a way out of the cycle of poverty, and provide hope for a stronger and more stable future. While this chapter of Haiti Made is coming to an end, we are not giving up. We will continue to seek new opportunities and innovative ways to support job creation in Haiti.
Pressing Forward with Hope
This is not the end of the story. We are still pressing forward, hoping, praying, and envisioning a future where Haitian children and families are not vulnerable to the injustices of this world. We remain committed to the fight for the vulnerable and to creating pathways of opportunity and hope.
