Climbing the Mountain of Focus: An Endeavor Fueled by Prayer

Life’s journey can feel a lot like climbing a mountain. Each step demands attention, focus, and resilience. The peaks are what we reach for, but the climb can often leave us breathless, questioning if we have enough strength to make it to the top. Focus is what keeps us moving, what keeps us from looking back or losing our footing.
This month, we center on a theme that resonates with every one of us—Focus. It’s not just a word, it’s a practice, an act of will and determination. Focus is the art of summoning maximum concentration at the precise moment it’s needed the most. It’s the ability to clear the noise and distractions, to silence the self-doubt, and to hold steady as we ascend.
Much like a mountaineer needs their rest-stops to refuel, we, too, need moments of stillness. Without time to replenish, we can’t give our best. That’s why time spent with the Lord—praying for others, worshiping, listening—is the premium fuel for the soul. It’s the replenishment that keeps us climbing, keeps our hearts in tune with the bigger picture.
We’re carrying you with us on this journey, and to help you stay centered, we’ve created a 4 Weeks of Prayer Guide, complete with a Haitian worship song to ground you each day. Every prayer you offer, every note you hear, is an invitation to focus not just on your journey, but on the journeys of those around you—those in Haiti, those in need, those striving just like you.
The mountain imagery isn’t just for today. It’s embedded in the stories of Scripture that guide our journey.
Moses on Mount Sinai (Exodus 19-20)
When Moses ascended Mount Sinai, it wasn’t just a physical climb—it was a climb into the presence of God. The mountain was separated from the distractions of life, a place of deep communion and clarity. God called Moses to listen attentively, to focus on His voice, and in return, Moses received the Ten Commandments—the very law that would guide an entire people.
In this sacred space, Moses found clarity and direction for what lay ahead. The mountain wasn’t just a geographical location; it was a space for focus—a place where distractions faded away, and God’s Word became the compass for the journey.
Jesus on the Mount (Matthew 14:23)
Jesus, too, understood the necessity of focus and seclusion. After a day of feeding thousands, He climbed a mountain to pray alone. In the stillness of the mountain, He found His strength, His purpose renewed. Jesus teaches us that focus isn’t just about physical exertion—it’s about spiritual replenishment. Going up the mountain was His act of intentional separation, His way of listening deeply, of connecting with the Father without the world’s noise.
Both Moses and Jesus sought out these mountaintop moments to focus, pray, and hear from God. These were not moments of escape, but moments of deepening communion with the One who guides their steps—and ours.
As Haiti faces its worst crisis in decades, with violence and political instability tightening their grip on the country, it’s easy to feel like we’re stuck in the valley, overwhelmed by the challenges ahead. The truth is, we’re all climbing this mountain together. From the gang violence gripping the streets of Port-au-Prince to the broader instability that’s displaced over a million people, Haiti is enduring a storm unlike any other.
In the face of this crisis, the most powerful tool we have is prayer. Just as Moses and Jesus climbed the mountain to focus on God, we must find our way to the mountaintop of prayer. We must pause, focus, and intercede for the people of Haiti.
We invite you to take this moment, to climb this mountain with us. Download our 4 Weeks of Prayer PDF and join us in praying for Haiti. Each week, as you listen to a Haitian worship song and focus your prayers, remember the people you’re lifting up—those enduring the unimaginable, those waiting for relief, and those hoping for a future free from fear.
The climb won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. And together, as we focus on the journey, we will keep pressing forward, trusting that God will lead us through.
